The Dieppe Co-op moves one step forward:
Co-op and City of Dieppe sign land deal for store site

The Board of Directors of the Dieppe Co-op and Co-op Atlantic are pleased to announce they have signed an agreement with the City of Dieppe to purchase a piece of land of over 8 acres on Dieppe Boulevard, at the corner of Chartersville Road. A sign showing the exact spot where the co-op will be built has been erected on the site.

Mr. Paul LeBreton, President of the Board of Directors of the Dieppe Co-op, is thrilled with the transaction and points out that this is a major step for the Co-op store in Dieppe. He adds that the Board of Directors will now breathe new life into the design of their development plan of a food co-op.

Mr. LeBreton is delighted that the Board continues to work closely with the other parties involved in the development of this area of Dieppe. “The co-operative movement promotes collaboration with other parties to act in the community’s best interest,” explains Mr. LeBreton. “We will make sure there is a Co-op store in Dieppe, and we are proud to be part of such a great development project in Dieppe.”

“Now that the land is ours, we can clearly set out our deadlines for the project. Our thirty-some volunteer recruiters are very enthusiastic, and it appears that the goal we had set out for ourselves will be reached before the store opens. There’s a lot of work to be done to prepare the site before the winter, and the foundation will be poured in the spring. The store is set to open in the fall of 2006. Everyone would have liked for the store to open sooner, but it was important that our deadlines be in line with those of other community partners’ development projects.”

Mr. LeBreton would like to thank all the volunteers as well as the members of the Board for all their hard work to date. “I invite the people of Dieppe to continue supporting their co-operative,” he says. “I’m very optimistic about the store’s future.”

He invites members and anyone interested in this project to share their comments and suggestions by sending them to info@dieppe.coop or by calling 382-COOP (2667). “You can also be heard at the annual meeting scheduled for the spring of 2006,” says Mr. LeBreton. “In a co-operative, you have a say in the development and the administration of the store because you are an owner.”

Mr. LeBreton also calls upon the people of Dieppe and surrounding areas to become founding members by contacting Marc Lanteigne at 384-6272 or Muriel Boudreau at 382-COOP.
